Penis Size And The Kinsey Study
For centuries, men have been searching for methods to increase penis size. Researchers often point out that the
majority of men fall into the average category when discussing the length and girth of their member.
However, this information does little to placate men who are suffering from embarrassment or low self-esteem as
a result of what they perceive as a small penis. Most men have a misconception about their penis size and this
article will serve to help them understand that.
So what is the average size and how in the world would anyone know that statistic? Well, there have been several
studies relating to penis length conducted over the last fifty years. However, there is one that is quoted and used
more than any other study.
Let’s take a look. The very first and most famous penis size study was conducted by famed researcher Alfred
Kinsey way back in 1948.
The study determined the following:
Average flaccid penis length—-3.89 inches
Average flaccid penis girth——3.75 inches
Average erect penis length——6.21 inches
Average erect penis girth——–3.75 inches
Flacid refers to the normal resting state of the penis when it is not engorged with blood. Erect obviously means
the state when sexual stimulation has occurred and blood flow to the area has increased causing the penis to become
stiffer and harder.
The study also surmised that any man having an erect penis length of between 5.5 and 6.5 inches would be
considered to have average penis size.
The results of this study have undoubtedly helped many men cope with their insecurity over the size of their
penis. But does this study really hold water?
Well, the truth is that the Kinsey Study had one major flaw: All of the participants were allowed to measure
themselves. They were each given a card with instructions on how to measure and where to write the results.
They were then sent to a private room. Over 3000 males followed these instructions and reported their results.
It would appear very likely that many men would be tempted to embellish their numbers just a bit due to
embarrassment or pride. In addition, the lack of repeatable and consistent measuring invalidates the results
entirely.
So while the Kinsey Study can be used for generalizations of penis size, as a study, it should be taken with a
grain of salt. Actual penis size is more than likely very close to the studies numbers due to the sheer amount of
participants who participated.
The important thing to remember is that unless a man is suffering from micropenis, his penis more than likely
falls into the average category. However, if penis size is causing mental anguish, then it may be time to address
it by enlarging the penis through surgery, exercises, or penis extenders.
